Use of non-original internal speakers?

Hi,

My friend's Macbook Pro 15" retina from 2012 has a problem with the speakers, every couple of months one of the speakers starts to sound bad. After replacing the right speaker three times for the last 5 months, now the left speaker has the same problem.

Seems like the laptop is feeding too much power or volume to the speakers and they just blow up at some point. Too often to be tolerable, actually.

My idea is to find an alternative to the original macbook speakers and fit it in the slots. I'm thinking to use the wires and enclosure of the real speaker, but to solder inside something with similar technical characteristics only more robust.

I cut open one of the old broken speakers and inside the plastic enclosure there was just a plain old ordinary speaker, no additional electronics.

This makes me think such a change is possible. Has anyone tried anything like this?

Thanks in advance.

This is possible to do, if the speaker just fit in original place and you use original wires (for contact to motherboard), I don't think you running to big problems...
