Where is the ignition coil?

Hello,

I think I might have the case of misfiring for my Honda Accord 4 cyclinders LX. My plan is to change out the ignition coil; yet I'm unsure of its position.

If any of you guru could help me in pinpointing out where it is, that would be great.

Sincerely.

Update (05/26/2017)

1999 Honda Accord LX 4 cyclinders.

I have a Honda Accord,a 1999 LX 2.3 litre Canadian bought. On real damp days it won't start. The plugs and wires were reinstalled 100km ago.Is it time for a change or is it my coil.

She's fine if you give her an hour and let the water evaporate and then will drive fine again until the next demo day.

I believe it is integrated with the distributor

your coil, pn 30500-PAA-A01, is located inside the distributor, under the cap.

Before going to the expense of replacing the coil it may be a good idea to get the codes read and find out for sure what the problem is .A misfire is not usually cause by a coil unless you have individual coils . This is an excellent video for diagnosing misfires in a honda

Hope this helps

I agree with Jim, do not replace coil prior to other checks for misfire, Good diagnosing video link above in his answer.

check the main relay and the fuel pump. one of them is most likely getting to hot, probably from a high internal resistance. once it has a chance to cool down it will work for a while until the heat builds up again.

The main relay controls the fuel pump, it is a normal wear and tear item but it can be resoldered to last another 10 years, just resolder the larger of the solder pads for the relays themselves, there are 2 of them, works every time IF THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM. By cooling down the distributor on the aluminum part of the body with a water hose may lessen the 30 minute cool down period to see if that is it or your CKP sensor or CMP sensor may also be overheating can be cooled down to troubleshoot. THis goes for any item that can be cooled down but the items listed are suspect.

My main relay switch that I purchased online was very cheap. All I did was plug it in underneath the steering column, and my car stopped dying on me. It took a long time to figure out the problem, in the process I killed my car battery.
