Can I get my MAC to run Canon printer BJC210?

I have had nothing but problems with printers ever since Canon refused to back up the old BJC210 printer. I have a MAC (Microsoft WPX Office 10703 Home and Student)

but I can't get my BJC210 to work. I like my old printer so much, I would even buy a small computer with the Windows program installed and use it solely to run the printer.

I bought the printer maybe 15 years ago and it never ever let me down or missed a beat and got me through my Ph.D with all the printing that involved. I liked it so much, I bought two more used ones and learned how to refill the cartridges. I thought I was set up for life, but Canon shot me down... Can someone suggest a SIMPLE way of getting back to using my old BJC210 please? My email in Toronto is: [eMail removed for privacy]

(I am a Senior and simple-minded when it comes to computers).

Many thanks.

James.

Hi fionnlaigh

I just checked with canon UK site and it mentioned about not supporting, but well there is another possible solution,

Consider reading and trying this method

https://www.andrewbrettwatson.com/index....

it mentioned about trying out on the unofficial drivers

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX...

What is your current computer and OS X?

Thank you kindly Augustine. I have just stumbled upon you answer a year or so later... I will check out the sites you mention.

Hello Mayer,

Think you very much for your response to my query about my old Canon BJC-210 printer. It has taken me over a year to stumble upon your reply...

Pardon my ignorance, but I have no idea what OS X means... I have a desk top iMac and am told it is "Microsoft WPX Office 10703 Home and Student" version. I have no clue what operating system (drivers?) it has.

Aye,

JAMES.

Bloody printers...The years have passed and I am still having problems.

I treated myself to a new Brother HL-2390DW printer which uses powdered toner. It worked well, but when the original toner ran out, I filled it with toner NOT made by Brother, ad the printer will not print out a single sheet. All I get is a note in the little window saying, "Refill with Toner..." I have a feeling that Brother makes their money not from selling printers but from charging excessively for refills! I would still like to get back to my old BJC 210 printers as I still have a big bottle of ink for refills, and these wee printers NEVER let me down over the years... It could be that the Brother needs resetting, but no matter what I do, it just won't perform.

I don't think there's too much you can do, even in a modern Windows environment since you have a Wintel printer. These do not have onboard processing and rely on the driver and rarely work in a modern environment without legacy hardware. There isn't much you can (usually) do.

The problem here is the age of your printer. It's too old to resonably expect Canon to support it in modern operating systems. You will need to locate an old Win9x or XP system to keep the printer in service and purchase something modern for your Mac.

Thank you for your input, Nick. Sorry it has taken me over a year to stumble upon your answer... It would be a hassle, but setting up a PC computer solely so I could use my Canon BJC-210 printer would probably be worthwhile. I bought a new HP 5540 machine and do not like it at all. It's too clever for me - when I refill a cartridge can you believe that the printer tells me I am using "counterfeit" (sic) ink! Right now (Aug. 17th 2019) the silly HP won't print at all.

Thanks again Nick,

JAMES

@fionnlaigh I'm pretty confident in saying you made the mistake of telling the printer to not use it and to treat it as counterfeit, and it is now flagged as a counterfeit in the memory on a dynamic security printer. That's usually when that gets triggered. And yes, that's why I still use my HP M401n.

DO NOT DO THAT in the future. Tell the printer it is a refilled (language varies between machines) and it'll print with nags. Until you go through 3 new carts, you've blacklisted the one you refilled, but I bet you it's flagged in the NVRAM knowing how far HP will go :(. Get a refilled set and tell the printer to use them anyway.
