Attached is a picture of the display screen for a Brookstone clock. A ribbon cable was attached to the black pads shown in the picture apparently by either electrical conducting glue or something in the ribbon cable covering works as glue when heated? The second part of the question is I see not electrical leads from the pads into the screen. How does such a system work?

Look at it vary carefully with the light at different angles and you should see very faint almost completely transparent conducting tracks. There’s a picture of a calculator display showing the tracks at https://wiki.restarters.net/Connectors#E...
