What is the gold film under the glass?

Without pics I can’t be certain. But here are a few things I can let you know.

Glass is suppose to be clear. If you removed the Glass only it should also be clear with black borders. Your LCD that is still on the frame should be black (see image), if it does not look like that, you probably removed the Polarizer film along with the glass and it is still on the glass. In that case your LCD is damaged. Try testing to see. I also added an image of the LCD’s back side if it were removed from the frame.

If you look at the picture above, the gold on the back of the display is adhesive. I’m not sure why it’s gold however. As far as I know, you can rip it and the LCD and digitizer will still work. In our store, whenever we do screen repairs on any phone, we always get the glass and LCD as one component. I’ve never done a glass only repair but from what my understanding is, it’s a pain in the rear end and it’s not easy. You will spend more for a full display unit but you will thank yourself in the long run as it’s much easier to work with.

@ryan_nyc below is how it should look if the glass was removed correctly. Note that there should be glue residue but this one has been cleaned and is actually off the frame also.

I was trying to replace the glass on a Galaxy S9+ and the polarizer came off with the glass.I bought it as a refurbished phone and I'm guessing the glass was replaced during the refurbishment and glued to the polarizer which may explain why it came off with the glass. Wondering if any of the others posting here with this problem were also working on a phone that had the glass replaced before.

any input ? All video show just the black ll( i assume lcd screen ) left after removing the glass. What am I missing here. does the silver film stay on the frame after glass comes off or is it suppose to all come off. As I have 2 films one on glass and one on the frame. I am lost at this point . 🤣

I actually just removed an old Samsung galaxy S-10 screen and I was very careful. I got everything removed and I have a gold/silver underneath the original screen also. I held the new screen up to it has no black tint to it. The phone isn't important to me nut I was just trying to make it work for someone who could use it.
