6 How do I fix a PS4 optical drive?
My PS4 will not read any discs. Every time I attempt to place any disc in the console, it either ends up not reading or displaying “Unrecognized Disc“. Also, upon restarting, it sometimes will not start until I initialize the system memory from Safe Mode because I do not have a USB drive. A guide or comment would be useful. Thank you!

Does the ps4 let you put in and take out discs?

@camerongio I can insert and remove discs, but they go in and out slowly and I usually have to help the motor get the disc in. I think the motor is weak, and I do not know how to fix this. If someone could help me, this would be great. Thanks!

I actually recently had this problem when I bought death stranding. My PS4 was working fine then all the sudden boom optical drive hit the fan. I did a few things, but i'm not sure which one made it work. The things I did were: 1) Unplug the HDD and plug it back in. 2) remove the power supply and dust it out. 3) Removed the optical drive and dusted it out very gently. We have a guide that will help you remove the optical drive as well! I may work at ifixit but i'm not much of the repairman but the PS4 is super easy to take apart and clean it. The upside to this downside is that your ps4 will still work even without a optical drive, but you will have to download all your games :(
