airport WIFI card new version to install: which one?

Dears,

Is it possible to update my MacBook (early 2008) with newer version of MacOS?

After the upgrade will the WiFi (airport) card not work because too old?

So my question is: If it’s possible to install a new version of the card. Please could you suggest me which model?

For your info the cards from BROADCOM that are Airport Extreame on MacBook system config that are not acceptable as card type: (0x14E4, 0x8C), (0x14E4, 0x9D),  (0x14E4, 0x87), (0x14E4, 0x88), (0x14E4, 0x8B), or (0x14E4, 0x90) .

If no solution to fix it I must install Linux…

The highest your system will run OS-X El Capitan 10.11.6. As far as AirPort the best you can install is the AirPort Extreme which only offers 802.11n support as the highest standard.

Review this guide: [недействительная ссылка на руководство] Finding a replacement board will be tricky! The board you need are just not being made anymore and whats out there are from systems which are stripped for parts which is just not done any more for this older model.

Sadly, I think its just time for a newer system as this system is quite limited from a processing & RAM prospective as well.

I've token this mcbook a couple of years ago just to see the apple's world. I've already upgrade it with 2Gb additional ram and it is still a quick laptop!! But now it is impossibile to do anything...some website cannot displayed because the browser are too old...and so on!! OK thank you for your help. It is the time to say goodbye to MAC OS!!

@ponit - I wouldn't blame Apple here!

No one could have foretold the future! If you had a Windows XP system (about the same time frame as this system was made) you couldn't use it with even Windows 9 or 10 as well.

In any case web sites have also moved on with HTML as well! Which requires a newer Web browser as well.

Don't forget to accept the answer if you're set sorry I couldn't offer you better news.

Yes Dan you are right! In the future I will bring home a new apple. Now as we need 4 pc at home that run at the same time (due to covid19 situation) I need that this white brick works again!! So my idea is to install linux (mint or ubuntu distribution) but obviusly I prefer Mac OS. That's all. Thank you for your help again. G
