MacBook Pro 13'' late 2012 does not charge after water damage

Hi,

I spilled water on my macbook and now it doesn’t charge. However is does work when plugged in. I took it apart and cleaned everything. I noticed that the water damage indicator on the magsafe port pcb is red. I am wondering will replacing this part help? My guess is if it was broken the motherboard would not receive any power at all. Whereas now it is working from the wall.

Thanks for the answer.

UPDATE:

I was able to take it apart again and clean it with alcohol thoroughly and now it is charging. See screenshot below

The water damaged your logic board and/or the battery its self. Lets see if we can get a better idea what needs repairs, install this gem of an app CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I took it apart one more time and did a more thorough cleaning of the whole logic board with alcohol and that did the trick. Now it is charging. Howerver it says that it is charging with ~22 watts. it fluctuates between 20 and 29 watts. Is that normal?

Screenshot attached.

Thank you very much,

Abe

@abrorhon - Don't see the screenshots? Once in the media tool bar you need to insert it.

The charging rate is dependent on the batteries temp and the level of charge it needs. Basically, its linear and is lowered when the temp of the battery is too warm.
