My MacBook Pro charging light stays red

My macbook pro is not turning on.The light on the charging cord only stays red, even overnight it never turns green and the MacBook won’t turn on. There are no noises when i press power. I contacted Apple Support and they gave me several keyboard commands to try with no luck. One of them (I believe it was control, option or command, shift and power) did turn the light green for about 2 seconds then back to red. But that was it.

All Apple stores are closed due to covid19, so they referred me to a local computer store who will charge me a $99 service fee plus labor and parts. Is this just a bad battery that needs replaced or even a bad charging cord that needs replaced? If it’s the cord I can order that from Apple and save myself the service fee. Any other tricks I can try ? Thanks

@alexvergeet hey did you solved the issue? Cause my mac is doing the same thing

из

No... it's gone forever... probably a motherboard defect, too expensive to be worth fixing

из

Same issue. I even swapped out the I/O board for mine, didn't resolve the issue. I'm gonna call it a lost cause at this point.

More likely the battery.

Lets given this a try, referencing this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Battery Replacement follow the first 6 steps disconnecting the battery. Now with nothing plugged in press and hold the power button for a good 15 secs. Now plug in your MagSafe charger your system should spontaneously boot up. Did it?

Thank you for the answer! Unfortunatelly i have done all these steps, and the problem doesnt seem to be the battery!

Re-read what I wrote are you sure you followed what I said? You need to discharge the logic board for this to work. Otherwise it won't work.

If you really did this then you have a logic boar failure

@danj i have followed all the six steps you have referenced! But im not entirely sure what part is the discharge of the logic board. But i have disconnected the battery and help the power button for 15 seconds then followed by conecting the charger. But with no sucess. Thank you for the help! Any other advise is really helpfull and i will try to do these steps again to make sure i havent messed it up. Do you have any idea of how much the cost for the fix of a logic board failure would be? Thank you!

Have you tried a separate charger? If you have a friend with a similar computer, ask them if they will let you test their charger on your machine. For your model you will want a 60W or greater Apple branded charger (most of the third party chargers I've seen have issues that cause sparking and/or early failure).

из

Yes i have tried with a family members charger. Still no response from the computer. For me its extra weird because the computer had a charge before being put away.. so right now i believe its a problem with the logic board. Thank you for the response! @zpl

Why does Apple make its users figure everything out by guesswork?

I sure am thankful for all the responses that said this didn’t work for them! I won’t try that first then. I wonder if replacing the cord did the trick? I also think for my MacBook, I might just need to replace the battery, because it’s really old - it only lasts for about 40 minutes, so maybe now it’s not only old, it’s toast.
