Mine is a 3500 and it does not react to any keyboard input. just flashes the DVD player lights and goes off.

it sounds like your keyboard connector may have been disconnected have you tried opening up your laptop and checking to make sure the ribbon cable connecting your laptop to the mainboard is connected.
