Help! Sentimental item has 3 loose wires.

Block Image

2 red and one black wire disconnected. No idea where they go. I’m assuming I will need to attempt to solder? Please help as this is a very sentimental item.

The snapshots aren't clear showing where those wires broke but there may be a solution if this is battery operated. Most battery operated devices use one, two, or more batteries. The batteries used can be AAA, AA, C or D cells. Each battery supplies 1.5volts DC. When applied in series, the voltage adds up. Usually each battery container has one red wire attached to the positive or top of one battery, the black wire attached to the negative or bottom of one battery or at the end of a series of batteries to multiply the voltages. In multiple battery packs, the second and third batteries are connected top to bottom by an interconnecting wire. Soldering chrome plated battery terminals may be difficult as solder may not be compatible where scraping off the chrome layer can expose bare steel that allows solder to stick. A soldering iron of around 25 watts should be sufficient for this repair. If unfamiliar with soldering, search youtube videos for easy procedures and examples of soldering techniques.

The two red wires are probably broken and need to be soldered together. The black wire may have broken off its end terminal on the negative, last battery connection.

It has some kind of “motherboard”. I will try to get a better pic.

@fluffyrae where does the black wire go? Looks like the battery case takes 1 AA battery. Do I see that right. The component with the blue tip appears to be a switch......Awesome device! Thank you for "bringing" it here.

@oldturkey03

Yes the blue button is on off switch and it does take 1 AA battery. I have no idea where any of the 3 disconnected wires go.

Thank you, I love it and it has a lot of meaning to me.

I am a complete novice when it comes to this but I will try and not usually give up on something once I put my mind to it.

Okay so you will have one black wire from the negative of the battery to the circuit board. One red from the positive of battery to the switch. One red wire from the switch to the board. Then you gave the wires leading away from the circuit board to wherever they connect on the owl. Can you verify those wires are present. @jayeff what do you think?
