Brand new defy dishwasher arms not spinning - RESOLVED

Hi all. As titled, brand new defy dishwasher. Arms not spinning. Our water source is from a Jojo tank with a booster pump on the line. Giving out 3.8 bar max. It's about 6 or 7 meters between the two. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Jenny

Hi @jennypennysa ,

What is the model number of the dishwasher?

Can you hear if water is entering the dishwasher?

Can you hear if the dishwasher's circulation pump is operating?

Is there water standing in the dishwasher below the lower spray arms after it has started and filled but the spray arms haven't rotated? Start the dishwasher and allow it to fill, heat and wash for a few minutes then open the door and check.

With dishwashers it's not the water supply pressure that causes the spray arms to rotate, it is the circulation pump in the dishwasher.

Initially the control board opens the dishwasher's water inlet valve to let water into the dishwasher and it fills the sump in the dishwasher. This is the tray below the lower spray arms.

When the required water level is reached the water level pressure switch operates and the control board closes the water inlet valve to prevent more water from entering.

After that the water in the dishwasher is heated and when the required temperature is reached the heater is turned off and the circulation pump is started to pump the water from the sump through the spray arms under pressure, which causes them to rotate and wash the dishes. The wash water runs off the dishes and collects in the sump and is pumped through again in a cycle etc

If there is water in the dishwasher, as it is brand new contact the manufacturer's customer service section about a warranty repair

Hi there. Thank you for your reply. I must double check the model number tomorrow. I'm in bed now checking mails etc. I think it's possibly ddw232. Could be wrong. Anyway.

Water does enter into the machine yes. It squirts from the arms but the arms don't turn.

The laugh is my previous washer had the same issue, so we bought a brand new one. Boom same problem, what's the chances of old and a new one having the problem?! Speaking of the circulation pump, once the dishwasher has filled, it sounds like it tries to turn the arms and sound normal then goes back to just spitting the water. I do zip the door open to check if arms are turning or not but still same. Just standing still and spraying. I'll contact the store tomorrow I bought it from. We live in a small town, so I'll have to find out about warranty repairs or if I'm lucky they will replace the machine at their store. Hold thumbs.

The spray arms won't move if the door is open, as you don't want water spraying out through the open door. The machine is stopped when the door is opened. The best that you can do is to place them both in a remembered position, allow the dishwasher to run in the wash cycle for a few minutes and open the door to see if they have moved from where you left them.

If you open the door during the wash cycle and the water level is just above the filter below the lower spray arm then there is enough water in the machine to wash the dishes.

If the spray arms haven't moved then there may be a blockage somewhere in the water circulation system in the machine i.e. pump, pipes, filters etc. Was there any packaging around the filters when you first got it? Remove them to see if they are clear - see the owner manual for how to check/clean the filters.

If they are clear and all of the dishes are not wet, due to the arms not spinning etc it may be a circulation pump problem.

Given that your other dishwasher had the same problem, is the power supply to the machine OK i.e. full voltage available that is required by the machine? Maybe plug the machine into another known working power outlet using an appropriately rated extension cord perhaps. Just an idea.
