Repair guides and support for top and front loading Whirlpool brand washers.

Spin cycle sometimes won't start

Whirlpool top load washer. Gets to spin cycle and doesn't start but I can hear motor. If I turn off wash cycle and turn back on the spin cycle kicks in and completes.

I thought clutch was issue, replaced and still happening.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

@M. Kornhoff

Sorry for the delay.

I was trying to locate the tech sheet for the model (Whirlpool 4313896 aka LIT4313896) to hopefully see the wiring diagram for the washer to check if the cycle timer was the problem by knowing what timer contacts are used for the spin cycle. It may be a worn cam or a worn or dirty contact in the timer.

Unfortunately timers are not reparable, they have to be replaced. (part #WP8572976 I think - maybe confirm if number printed on timer)

Given the cost of a timer, (search online for the part number), you could try liberally spraying a specialist electrical/electronic contact cleaner (example only, there are others) into the timer to see if this clears the problem. Disconnect the power before doing this and allow sufficient time to dry before reconnecting the power to the machine.

Do not open the timer as you will have cams and contacts everywhere - usually there are about 12 cams and 20+ contacts in a timer. Hopefully there may be some holes in the casing that you can use. Also do not use standard WD40 as it leaves residues.
