Looking For a New Surge Protector and/or Battery Backup

Search for a surge protector that gives an indication that it has activated because of a surge. Most low end protectors are a one time sacrificial type and usually give no indication that they have failed except perhaps if there is no power.

Also one where the manufacturer offers a warranty/insurance on repairing your devices in the event that their protector fails to prevent any damage to the device due to a surge event.

Too run a computer during a power outage you need a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) that will run the computer long enough for you to save your work and to shut it down safely. (Search for UPS power supplies). To continue to run on a UPS when no power is available means having one that would be too expensive for the average user.
