There is a thin, black, flexible tape used to secure the sockets that the ribbon cables plug into. The tape keeps the cable from pulling out as well as holding down the release lever. The tape is very delicate and conforms to wrap the object it is attached to.

If your on about replacing the tape after a repair you can use kapton tape.

I am aware. Clearly, Motorola did not think this was the optimum solution. The tape they used totally formed around the socket and because it was stretchy it pulls the cable into the ribbon cable connector. My suspicion is that this also provides significant intrusion protection from moisture, contaminants, etc. So far no one can even tell me what this tape is called.

The tape tends to self-destruct. It is very thin, plyable and sticky. It wraps around components it is placed on sealing away moisture and providing strain relief.
