Is the hard drive upgradeable?

Is there a guide on upgrading the hard drive or is it upgradeable?

If you look at the picture from this teardown article: 15″ MacBook Air Teardown: Bigger and Better? Maybe Not. You'll see in the picture after the section titled "Repair Nightmare" on the mainboard of this laptop an open pad for another SSD on the board, one pad is populated with an SSD, now that SSD could be a 256 GB, a 512 GB or a 1 TB SSD. However, you can use an external drive that has USB-C for either Time Machine or as extra storage.

@jasonmurakami - You have two options with external drives, the faster is using a Thunderbolt drive, the other is a USB-C drive. Both use the same interface on the system, it’s just the drive logic which interfaces with the system which is different.

The next issue is ideally using a direct connection, while a hub can be useful you may not get the drives full throughput.

The last is size matters! You want as large as you ca afford this is do to the Flash chip count within the drive. The more flash chips the better.
