What about chip swap for Screen Replacement

Hello, I’m faced with having to replace the display assembly on a 2023 MacBook Pro 16-inch a2780 M2 Max (VH60WXG703).

I’ve done plenty of Mac screen replacements, but this one I hear has a chip that I need to swap out. Can anybody detail that process?

Also, can anyone verify that serial number (in other words the specific model)? I’m not finding it on any of my usual resources, due to its recent release.

Thank you.

I’m not aware of people doing the M2 systems only the older M1 and that only corrected the TrueTone issue.

The newer M2 systems use the zoned LED backlight system which creates a new issue.

I would just get the part from Apple between the risks of messing up, having a better repair in the end. Then the time and needed gear and skill set you need to have. All of which gets you a happier customer in the end.

Self-Servicing Account Program

To say I’m happy with Apple’s direction with their control of the access to their calibration tool forcing purchase of the part through them when a salvaged part is better for the environment and cheaper for the customer I’m not!

When you say hey the part from Apple, which part specially?

So you are saying on this model that there is no need to remove a chip from the existing display to put on the new one?

Thank you for elaborating.

@wellconnected - Getting the replacement from Apple is what I’m recommending. Then you get access via a paywall to the needed calibration tool to correctly setup the display.

If you get any other display you then need to mess about which is tricky!

Think it this way… I’m your family doctor and you have a brain tumor do you want me to dig it our or would you want a brain surgeon who does this type of operation a few times a day? I hope you don’t pick the generalist 🫤
