After replacing the Screen, the Screen doesnt turn on anymore.

I had cracked the glass on my tablet. I have replaced the whole screen assembly, but now neither the old nor the new screen turn on anymore.

The tablet itself is fine and working, i can connect to it via USB, and even cast its screen to my PC.

How would i debug this further?

Hi @censord

Inspect the display flex cable connector on the systemboard to make sure that no damage has occurred to the pins in the connector.

If the connector appears to be OK, here's the troubleshooting section of the SM-T500, -T505, -T507 service manual that may help.

Go to p.22 (of 29) to view the display/touch screen troubleshooting flowchart. At the end of the flowchart there are layout diagrams showing the location of the components referenced in the flowchart.

Unfortunately there's no parts list in the manual, so if a component is faulty it may be hard to know what type (or value) the component is (or has) so that it can be replaced. Hopefully it doesn't come down to that.

Hi @jayeff, thank you very much for your answer.

I have already ordered a new cable, as i wasn't sure if it's fine. And at ~€8, it's easier to just check.

I will go through the flowchart once i have tested that.

Assuming i find what the problem is with the flowchart, where would one get these replacement parts?

With the tablet turned on, try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the screen and check if you can see any images on the screen. They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help.

If there are images to be seen then there's a screen backlight power supply problem most likely on the systemboard as you have tried two screens. Not that this helps as there's no wiring diagram anyway showing which wire it is fed on between the board and the screen

Just curious, did you disconnect the battery from the systemboard before you removed the old screen and reconnect it after you inserted the new screen or not at all?

Also use a magnifying glass and check the connector on the systemboard.

If it is an IC that is the problem, hopefully the type number will be shown on it.

If it is a smaller component e.g. capacitor then it will be harder as mostly they're not marked.

You may have to contact a Samsung repair service and ask as hopefully they may have the itemized parts list for the phone and not just say change the board.

My replacement cable arrived.

So i took the table out, and tried the old cable on more time:

And if worked just fine.

My guess: Some thermal fuse had to reset, or some capacitor needed to completely uncharge.
