Component labelled as RFF2 purpose?

Hi there I had a question if anyone knew what the name of the component labelled RFF2 on the Series controller (1914) is called or does?

Block Image

I see it's part of the circuitry involved for connectivity

I suspect it is some form of either signal amplifier or something along those lines.

My controller had no power and was creating a whine noise. Upon further inspection the SoC sub board had a short which identified by the component labelled RFF2 was incredibly hot, after removing it power was restored but the range of the controller was terrible.

I am aware I can just use it plugged in but I need wireless functionality.

Thanks in advance!

RF filter 2, exact parameters unknown.

It’s not supposed to heat up at all as this is a passive component passing maybe nanowatts or even picowatts of power through.

Thanks @tomchai! You're right its not supposed to but it was the source of my controller not power on. I wish I could attach video as I have video of using the alcohol method to identify what gets hot through the alcohol drying quickly. That component was well over 40°C as it burned me.

@davedavids Maybe it's not the source as there is no power source connected to it, have you checked upstream of the component? Maybe the RF feed output of the chip upstream is shorted to this trace and power is leaking from it through this filter to ground.

No I have not, I will explore this option. I will acquire replacements for the component labelled T2 as well as the rf filter as the only source of power I can see on that would be from T2 as it has a 3.3V line with a line to RFF2 through Z4.

Thank you @tomchai for opening my eyes to this perspective
