DTC PO451: FTP SENSOR RANGE/PERFORMANCE PROBLEM

Special Tools Required Vacuum Pump/Gauge, 0-30 inHg A973X-041-XXXXX

  • 1 . Remove the fuel fill cap.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  • 3 . Monitor the FTP sensor voltage with the scan tool or the HDS;, or measure voltage between PCM connector terminals A29 and CI8.

Is there about 2.5 V?

YES -Go to 4 step

NO -Replace the FTP sensor .

  • 4 . Turn the ignition switch OFF
  • Remove the EVAP canister cover see 1 on EVAP Canister Replacement step
  • Disconnect the hose between the EVAP two way valve and the FTP sensor at the EVAP two way valve end.
  • 7 Connect a vacuum pump to the open end of that hose.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

NOTE: Do not apply too much vacuum or you will damage the FTP

sensor .

  • 9 Monitor the FTP sensor voltage with the scan tool or the HDS , Or measure voltage between PCM connector terminals A29 and C18, and slowly squeeze the vacuum pump a little while watching the voltage.
  1. The voltage should smoothly drop from about 2.5 V to about 1.5 V. applying vacuum when the voltage drops to about 1.5 V or damage to the FTP sensor may occur. Stop

Does the voltage drop to about 1.5 V and hold?

YES ~Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck see HOWTO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING ) If the symptomlindication goes away, the original PCM replace

NO -Replace the FTP sensor .

DTC P0452: FTP SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE

  • 1 . Check for misrouted, poorly connected, damaged, or pinched vacuum lines at the FTP sensor .

Are the vacuum lines OK?

YES -Go to 2. step

  • NO -Repair or vacuum lines as necessary . replace
  • 2 Reset the PCM (see HOWTO_RESET THE PCM
  • 3 . Remove the fuel fill cap.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Monitor the FTP sensor voltage with the scan tool or the HDS, or measure voltage between body ground and PCM connector terminal A29.

Is there about 2.5 V?

YES -Intermittent failure; system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor and at the PCM.

NO-Go to 6. step

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2. 7 Reinstall the fuel fill cap.
  3. Disconnect the FTP sensor 3P connector .
  4. 9 Turn the ignition switch ON (II) .
  5. Measure voltage between FTP sensor 3P connector terminals No . 1 and No. 2.

Is there about 5 V?

YES -Go to 11 . step

NO -Repair open in the wire between the FTP sensor and the PCM (C28)

  • 11 . Measure voltage between FTP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.

Is there about 5 V?

YES -Replace the FTP sensor.

NO -Go to step 12.

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2. 13 . Disconnect PCM connector A (32P).

  1. Check for continuity between FTP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES -Repair short in the wire between the FTP sensor and the PCM ( A29).

NO -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCMFOR TESTING ) Ifnormal voltage is indicated, replace the original PCM

DTC P0453: FTP SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE

  • 1 . Check for misrouted, poorly connected, damaged, or pinched vacuum lines at the FTP sensor .

Are the vacuum lines OK?

YES -Go to 2. step

NO -Repair or replace vacuum lines as necessary .

  • 2 . Reset the PCM see HOW TORESET THE PCM
  • 3 . Remove the fuel fill cap.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  • Monitor the FTP sensor voltage with the scan tool or the HDS , Or measure voltage between body ground and PCM connector terminal A29.

Is there about 2.5 V?

YES -Intermittent failure, is OK at this time. Check for poor comnections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor and at the PCM system

NO -Go to step 6.

  • Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  • Reinstall the fuel fill cap.
