iPod Classic Headphone Jack & Hold Switch Replacement

Моя проблема

My iPod has been my companion for years. It holds all of my music in one place and provides the cheesiest games for when one is in a pinch (saved me so many times). The headphone jack started to play only in mono. This was no good, I took it to Apple, who was kind enough to tell me that my product was out of warranty by about a month and that they couldn't help me (insert story about planned obsolescence). My temporary solution was to take my brother's and use it. That was about 4 years ago now.

Моё решение

I went into the repair with apprehension. The guide for this repair made it seem like it was going to be impossible. The hardest part was getting the iPod open. The jimmy made quick work of that. After that everything was a breeze. I didn't really even look at the guide after that. While I was inside my iPod I decided to clean my screen as well. Somehow dust gets in there and makes it really dull. But 6 screws later that screen was clean. I reassembled everything carefully to get everything in its right place. It all clipped back together with a breeze. I plugged it in and the screen was so bright! The headphone jack was playing in stereo too! I couldn't be happier to be reunited with my old friend.

Мой совет

Get the jimmy. The repair guide uses a putty knife. I shudder ever time I think about it. My jimmy didn't bend any of the tabs and I was able to get the iPod open in about 5 minutes.

I've got 2 x 160GB Classics, both with faulty hard drives.

The classic is so much easier to use than the Touch or my iPhone.

Does ifixit have affordable replacement drives or conversion kits for flash drives?

Do you post to Australia?
