If your vacuum suddenly turns off during use, see the Dyson DC58 Shuts Off While In Use problem page for possible causes and solutions. I suspect it is the battery protection circuit cutting in. This circuit monitors the battery voltage. After the motor is first started, the battle voltage will drop due to a load of starting up the motor. The circuit allows a second or so for the voltage to recover. If the voltage does not recover in this period, it shuts down the motor on the assumption that there is a fault that is drawing too much current and will cause the battery to explode into flames. As batteries age, their internal resistance increases and they take longer to recover from the startup load. Things like cleaning the filters etc. will reduce the startup load and this will temporary solve the problem. As you can see from the first few seconds the motor runs OK, there is nothing really wrong with the machine (or in fact the battery except that it is slowing down a little in its middle age.) The real...
I replaced the usb port and had the same problem as esteeizola because my battery was completely drained. (IMHO Sony has a design fault with their USB ports. They are rubish. If you get more than 200 plug/unplug operations out of a Sony USB you are very lucky).
What happened was that USB drew 4 to 5 milli-amps for about 10 to 12 amps. During this time the red led was lit but the device remained dead. Finally, USB started drawing a normally charging current (a very pathetic 300 milli-amps from what I can tell.) And the device came to life say the battery was 2% charged.
I don't what the reason is for this behavior but it certainly is very confusing and frustrating,
