Really need more information but it sounds like a lamp issues. These should be a little yellow light on top of this projector. Check if that is on or flashing then you just need to order and replace lamp. If so follow directions below. I was recently searching for a replacement cable myself. After endless googleing and forums, i found out that small replacement parts like that are not available for the droid yet. Best bet is to sell it for parts, or to buy another broken one (like cracked screen) and do some transplanting.
Reformatting is a Restore. If your music is on Itunes, then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to restoring your iPod.
