I'm siding with paintbyletters....just opened up a A1181 and found green verdigris corrosion on the logic board hidden under a piece of insulating tape...track seems intact but possibly transistor blown ( a three-legged device with one side open circuit)..see if I've got a tiny npn transistor... Edit....no it looks like it's a FET Update: Schematic available for $10 on http://www.docin.com/p-47426907.html# Update: Unfortunately after cleaning verdigris, still the same.
I lubricated my screen hinges some years ago. It did help, but I should probably do it again. I think I used a very thin silicone or aromatics WD-40 type of spray, and carefully attempted to pry open the gap of the hinge to facilitate the ingress of the lube, maybe using an Opinel knife or a Stanley blade. Apologies for flaky memory. My hinges are still a dangerously weak point, and I always open the laptop carefully and slowly with two hands. Good luck.
