Figured it out, I 3d printed out some parts to push the DVD laser ribbon cable down so it wouldn't scratch the disc and a screw holding down one of the parts was lifted enough to be touching the top shell so when the laser assembly moved, the screw was scratching the top shell causing the noise. To fix it I'm just cutting a bit of the shell off as the screw is close to the main cutout for the laser. If you're having a similar issue, put the top shell on with no screws and see if the laser is hard to move back and fourth especially when adding pressure to the top. Also look at the underside of the shell for any scratch marks.
