Im afraid id have to agree with mother board these laptops have a built into the mother board (not replaceable) video card and if both internal and external monitors are playing up it points to a bad video card.

Sounds like a hardware fault causing the computer to stop. It maybe the hard drive, inside the hard drive there are 2 to 4 metal disc's that have your data stored on them these discs spin at a incredible speed the whole time the computer is turned on, when the laptop is bumped on dropped these discs can take a realy bad battering and can sometimes cause them to break or damage. I would try starting the laptop with nothing plug in, no keyboard not mouse no usb drives, just incase it is one of them causing the issue, if it still plays up then how confident do you feel replacing laptop components. If all else fails maybe a pc repair shop can help.

Try having a look at the control board inside, is there any corrosion or water on the board? If its corroded then it may be repairable with a soldering iron lots of propyl and steady hand. If there is water on the board dab it dry with a paper towel and leave the cover off for a while in front of a fan to let it dry out.
