Touch screen won’t function
The touchscreen wont read finger touch
Internal systems overclocked/ system freeze
“Powerwash” the computer (press ctrl+alt+shift+r on sign in screen).
This is a hard reset of the computer. Overclocking the CPU can cause freezes in the system and overworks your system. A hard reset can clear the over use of processes, freeing up whatever was causing the slow down.
Disconnecting WiFi
The WiFi keeps disconnecting and/or won’t connect at all
Poor Signal connection
If you can not connect to the internet when you power up your laptop, try restarting it once more, sometimes signal is just bad and your laptop can not pick up a strong signal to connect with
Bad Sim Card
Run diagnostics using the connectivity diagnostics application and see what debugs it suggest. Check to see if your CPUs sim card is functioning properly
Draining Battery
The battery drains at an excessive rate
Too many background apps
Open up task manager( Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and observe what task and applications are currently active. You can right-click on which applications are active and force-stop the ones that are not needed . Check what wireless connections are on, such as blue-tooth, cloud syncing, etc. Then turn off the ones not in use. You can do this by looking at the bottom right hand side of your display. There you can see the icons of various wireless settings. You can click on them to see their status and turn them off as necessary.
Power saving mode is not on
Go into your settings and look for power saving mode on your laptop. Turn this setting on. Power saving mode under-clocks your CPU and shuts down unnecessary processes. This helps conserve battery life and extends your use. Power Saving mode can be set to turn on when a certain battery percentage is reached, otherwise you can turn it on manually.
CPU may have viruses, malware, etc.
Run a diagnostic on your device using a virus protection software. Malware, viruses, and bugs all eat at a computers’ memory and battery life. If malware, viruses, or bugs are detected, you can Power wash your computer( hard factory reset) to set everything back to factory settings, ridding of viruses and malware.
Battery is worn/old/defective
If the other solutions do not solve your computers battery life issues, it may be because the battery is bad. You can find battery replacement instructions here.
Touchpad is unresponsive
The touchpad does not move the cursor and does not read users touch
Touchpad surface is dirty
The most common problem when the devices touchpad is unresponsive, is due to the presence of dust or dirt on the surface. To fix this problem, begin by powering down the device to avoid any shortages. Now that the device is safe, dampen a cloth or a microfiber towel, with distilled water. Gently rub the surface area of the touch pad until all dirt has been wiped off. Take the unused section of the towel and gently rub the surface until dry. Power device back on and check to see if this has resolved the issue. If not, proceed to the next step.
Touchpad has been disabled
Sometimes the touchpad’s setting has been disabled by accident or by another user. To check if this is the problem, open the device settings. First, click on your profile picture in the lower left corner of the screen. This will bring up a menu from which you can select the settings option. After opening the settings option, another command menu will appear which allows you to enable/disable the touchpad. Check to see if this had solved the unresponsive touchpad.
Device needs to be restarted
If the above solution has not resolved the unresponsive touchpad, try restarting your device. Sometime if the device has been operating for a long period of time, it may simply need a reboot.
Touchpad has malfunctioned
After exhausting all other options, in a last ditch effort perform a factory reboot of the device. It is vital to backup the memory of the device before proceeding to reboot. Next, left click the your users profile picture in the lower right corner of the display screen. Left click on the option that says settings, this will open a new menu. On the bottom of the menu display, click on the “show advanced settings”. Look for the label which reads”Powerwash” and then click restart. Another window will appear, left click the restart button. your device will automatic go through its factory reset,
Sound not playing through device/headphones
Audio will not play through device speakers/headphones and or will cut in and out.
Headphone jack not secured into headphone port
Make sure the headphone jack is fully embedded in the devices port, by pushing the headphone jack into the port even further. The port is oddly shaped and often times the headphone jack is not fully secured into the headphone port.
Faulty headphones
Sometimes the problem users are having with their audio is not the device, but simply the headphones they are using. If possible, try using another set of spare headphones and plug them into the headphone port. If the audio is working, then the issue lies with the original set of headphones and not the device itself.
Unregistered sound settings on device
Move the mouse to the bottom right of the display and right click on the icon which resembles a speaker. A tab with a list of option will appear, left click on the option that says “Open Sound settings”. This will open a the sound menu with various settings. Under the volume section, left click and hold the oval icon on the volume bar and drag it to the right. this will ensure the volume is not muted. Next make sure the sound output is to the correct device. To do this, click the drop down arrow on the right side of the output device option and make sure the right device is selected. Other options are available in the menu, such as audio troubleshooting. Your device will guide you through possible sources for the problem and how to fix them. Try this option before moving forward.
Cache has not been cleared
Open the google chrome browser on your device. Left click on the icon with the three horizontal bars directly underneath the close icon, this will open your browsers settings tab. Move and hold your mouse over the option that reads “more tools”, and select the option that says “clear browsing data”. This will open a menu tab, change the time range to “all time”, and then left click on clear data. After completed, restart your computer and check to see if this has resolved the issue.
Volume settings are muted in media app
When using different media applications, such as YouTube or Google Play, the volume is muted on there application as opposed to your systems volume settings. To fix this, open the media app and search for a volume icon on their display. If the icon has an “x” next to it, left click on the icon to unmute the applications sound. If the problem consists, try the next step.
User profile settings have changed
There could be a setting that was changed mistakenly on your user profile. By logging as a guest, this ensures the default audio settings will be used. To do this, restart your device, and choose “log in as guest”. Open the media application and try playing a sound. If this does not work, try the next step.
Device systems are frozen
This step will clear all memory from your device, so it is extremely important that all other options have been exhausted before performing this step. Make sure all of your devices memory is backed up onto a hard drive first. Next, left click the your users profile picture in the lower right corner of the display screen. Left click on the option that says settings, this will open a new menu. On the bottom of the menu display, click on the “show advanced settings”. Look for the label which reads”Powerwash” and then click restart. Another window will appear, left click the restart button. your device will automatic go through its factory reset, do not touch the device while it performs this option.
