If the screen on your HP Pavilion 15-cs0012cl freezes and stops responding to your mouse/keyboard, or the screen stays completely black when you turn the laptop on (even though the power lights are on), follow this page for possible solutions.
Loose or Faulty Screen
The connection between the motherboard and the screen can become loose, or the LCD panel itself may be worn out or damaged.
Steps to Troubleshoot the Screen:
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
- Inspect the screen with a flashlight for very faint images or hidden hairline cracks.
- If you need to check the internal cable, you must remove the plastic frame (bezel) around the screen. Use your plastic pry tool and gently work your way around the inside edge.
- Note: You will hear loud clicking and snapping noises as the plastic clips release—this is completely normal!
- Locate the display cable behind the screen and ensure it is firmly pushed into its port.
- If the cable is secure but the screen remains black or distorted, you will need to order a compatible replacement LCD panel.
Dead CMOS Battery
The CMOS battery is a tiny battery on the motherboard that remembers your laptop's basic startup settings and clock. If it dies, the laptop can get confused and fail to send a signal to the screen.
Steps to Replace the CMOS Battery:
- Power off the laptop, remove the bottom casing, and disconnect the main battery.
- Look for a shiny silver watch battery (specifically a CR2032 coin-cell battery) slotted onto the motherboard.
- Use your plastic pry tool to gently pop the old battery out.
- Push a new CR2032 battery into the slot.
- Reconnect your main battery, put the casing back on, and turn the laptop on. It may take an extra minute to boot up as it rebuilds its internal settings.
Failing Main Battery
The HP Pavilion 15-cs0012cl has an internal battery. If it fails to hold a charge or causes unexpected power drops, it can cause the laptop to freeze or fail to boot.
Steps to Replace the Main Battery:
- Power off the laptop, remove the bottom casing, and disconnect the main battery cable from the motherboard.
- Unscrew the screws holding the battery frame in place.
- Lift the old battery out of the laptop.
- Slot the new, compatible battery into place and screw it down.
- Plug the new battery's cable into the motherboard, put the casing back on, and plug the laptop into the wall to fully charge it before use.
