Motorola Moto G Pure 2021 Audio Sounds Distorted
The Motorola Moto G Pure 2021 phone does not play any audio when expected or sound is distorted through its speakers.
Dirty Speakers
If you use the up button to raise speaker volume, try playing audio, and get no or muffled volume, then it is likely due to dirty speakers. Conduct a close visual inspection of the audio-ports on the bottom and top of the phone before following the instructions below.
- Power off your phone, and remove any attached accessories.
- Get a soft dry brush, microfiber cloth, or cotton swab to use for cleaning. WARNING: avoid using any sharp brushes, abrasive cloths like paper towels, or metal tools as these could damage internal components near the phone speakers.
- Use your selected cleaning tool to gently loosen the debris located on the bottom speaker-ports, and the top of the phone where the earpiece speaker port is located a few times in a sweeping motion.
- Optional: You can try cleaning some accessories like your screen protector or phone cover with soap and water. WARNING: if you do this step, make sure to let the accessories dry before putting back on phone. If not dry, this could trap water in the speakers/ports.
Full steps for cleaning can be found on this website.
Once the phone speakers are clean, power it back on, and play a known audio file that has normal range of sound at %50 volume. If audio quality is better or working as expected, then you are done. If not, then its likely a software or hardware issue causing the audio distortion. Check the next sections of this guide to see if any of it helps.
Low Static Sound Coming From Speakers at Max Volume
If you hear a static sound, and the volume is too low even when increasing it to the max, then that indicates the cause is likely software related.
Try some of these simple solutions first before moving on to deeper parts of this guide:
- Solution # 1 Restart your phone:
- In general, restarting the device can sometimes resolve temporary software glitches that are caused by idling programs, or cache storage issues.
- This can be done by:
- holding the power and volume buttons on the sides of the phone for about 20-30 seconds to force a restart. Test out the audio by pressing on the up and down keys while playing something with volume to see if you get a comfortable range of sound.
- Solution # 2 Update your phone:
- Sometimes unintended glitches are caused by bugs in the phone's operating system. Usually, the organization that makes the operating system will push out updates to fix some of these bugs. Updating the phone to at least 174.44.1.en.US or newer may resolve some of these audio issues caused by software bugs.
- You can update the phone by:
- Tap on the settings button
- Tap on About phone
- Tap on System Updates
- Tap Yes, I'm in to start downloading the update
- Tap on install now when the update is done downloading. The phone will restart afterwards, so just wait after the restart to test if the audio issue has been resolved or not.
Full range of common software solutions can be found here.
If the static sounds still persist even after updating and restarting the phone, then we need to run a quick test to see if the issue is actually caused by software or hardware. This diagnostic involves booting into Safe Mode for Android. You can find the full instructions for booting into Safe Mode here.
Steps to Boot into Safe Mode:
- Press and hold the power button until power options appear
- Tap and hold power off until a reboot to safe option appears
- Tap on the prompt
- Wait for phone to finish restarting
After the phone restarts, you’ll see widgets grayed out, and the phone will only use first party features while in this mode. If the static sound disappears, and audio volume range is normal, then it was likely caused by a third party app on the phone.
Choppy Low Quality Sounds Coming from Phone During Calls
If you're experiencing low audio quality issues during phone calls, this may be due to some network issues your phone could be experiencing.
Try this solution to see if it helps:
- Repair Solution:
- Find and click on your phone Settings
- Tap System
- Tap on Reset options
- Click on Reset Wi-Fi,Mobile&Bluetooth
- Select Reset settings in the Reset Settings option
The website that have the same instructions can be found here.
Test your phone by calling someone or that same person to see if the audio quality is improved.
If audio quality is better but not at a desired level, you can try tweaking the audio quality settings by:
- Finding your phone Settings
- Select Sound
- Click on Audio Effects
- Tap on Adjust Wired Stereo and Speaker settings separately and tweak them to see if that restores audio quality to the level you desire.
If audio quality did not improve at all, and the above software solutions in this guide did not work, then its likely a hardware issue.
To check the hardware of your Android phone in Safe Mode, follow these instructions.
If a hardware component is the cause of the audio distortion, check the below sections of the guide to see how a few of these components can be replaced.
If the status of all hardware is normal, then there is likely some other issue occurring that I was unable to identify in this guide. In that case, you may want to go to your local android phone support store to get professional help.
