If you press multiple keys on your NuPhy Halo 65 but they do not respond, follow these instructions to diagnose and fix your keyboard.
Dirt Within the Keyboard
There could be debris beneath the keycaps, preventing actuation. Here are the steps to clean them:
- Power off the keyboard and remove its batteries.
- Take a photo to remember the key layout when removing multiple keys.
- Use the provided keycap/switch puller to lift the caps.
- Soak the keycaps in a bowl of warm, soapy water. Then, use a toothbrush or a soft rag to remove the dirt. Allow them to dry completely (this can take several hours).
- For the keyboard itself, turn it upside down and shake. Use compressed air to push debris out from between the switches. Then, use a Q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe down any sticky residue.
- Reassemble the keycaps using the image you took, after everything is completely dry.
If you're still facing issues, follow this sound-dampening silicone replacement guide to fix any misaligned switches or uneven surfaces.
Incorrect Key Mapping
Upon pressing certain keys, their output doesn't match the corresponding keys. This could be due to software errors during manufacturing.
- Press and hold Fn + [ or Fn + X + B to perform a hard reset on the keyboard.
- If this does not work, check to see if you have downloaded and installed the latest firmware from the NuPhy website.
Faulty Switch Connections
If you have replaced the switches on your keyboard previously, or they came like that, and they are not responding, they could be in need of a maintenance check-up.
- The switch pins might be bent. Remove the pins using the provided keycap/switch puller, gently straighten them, and reinsert the pins into the keyboard.
- Alternatively, use the keycap/switch puller to remove the unresponsive switch and replace it with one of the spare switches included in the accessories package.
Follow this key switch replacement guide for a more detailed walkthrough.
Incorrect Mode Settings
Computer mode
If keys like Windows, Alt, or function keys are not working, your keyboard is likely in the wrong mode for your computer.
- Windows Mode: Press Fn + X + S (light blue indicator).
- Mac Mode: Press Fn + X + A (white indicator).
- Gaming Mode: Press Fn + X + G (or M3 on the side switch) to enable dedicated gaming functions.
Function Keys Locked
If your top row keys are acting as media controls (brightness/volume) instead of F1-F12 (or vice versa), they may be locked.
Press Fn + X + F to switch between media keys and standard function keys.
Factory Reset
Press and hold Fn + [ or Fn + X + B to perform a hard reset on the keyboard.
Physical Connection
Ensure the side switch is in the correct physical position (wired/off/wireless).
- Wired Mode: Toggle the side switch to the middle position (wired) and use the USB-C cable.
- Wireless: Use the steps mentioned in NuPhy Halo 65 will not connect via Bluetooth under the section 'Incorrect Keyboard Connection'.
If nothing else works, it may be an issue with the entire main hotswap PCB. Check out this replacement guide for more information.
