Your computer won’t charge when it’s connected to an adapter.
Make sure the adapter is plugged into both the computer, and a power socket. Plug the adapter directly into a power socket, because an extension cord or power strip could be faulty. Make sure the adapter is from Sony, and not a third party. Third party adapters are not always compatible. Check to make sure the light on the charger comes on. If it doesn’t, the adapter is faulty.
If the adapter is properly plugged in, and its light is on, see if the laptop will power on. If it will only power on with the adapter connected; give it time to see if the battery will charge. If it doesn’t the battery will need to be replaced, follow this guide(hyperlink later) for help.
The BIOS may need to be updated. To do this, find out what version of windows you’re running. Go to the Sony Support page and search for “BIOS Utility Update (Your version of Windows)”. Install the indicated file. Close all programs, and make sure to not open any new ones while the update is installing. Run the downloaded file, and follow the instructions it gives.
If none of the previously listed solutions work, it may be the motherboard. Follow this guide to replace your motherboard.
Your computer turns on but only displays a black screen.
Flea Power Buildup
Flea power is a residual electrical charge that can remain in electronics even when they are turned off; it can build up and cause a computer to malfunction. To fix this, simply remove the battery from the computer, and, while the computer is plugged in, hold the Shift + F8 + power buttons for 30 seconds.
Dirty RAM Card
If the simple fix above doesn’t work, you may need to remove and gently wipe down the RAM card. To remove the RAM card, follow the first # (number to be determined) steps of this guide (hyperlink later), then gently wipe it down or clean it with an air duster before replacing it.
Faulty Hard Drive Connection
If cleaning the RAM card doesn’t work, it may be that your computer’s hard drive is not connected securely. To check this, follow the first 6 steps of this guide to access the hard drive, then ensure that it is sitting securely in place.
Faulty RAM Card
If everything is secure and clean and your computer is still displaying only a black screen, you may need to replace your computer’s RAM card. For help with doing so, follow this guide.
Your computer is hot to the touch consistently, or the fan is loud and overworking.
Your computer’s fan may have accumulated dust or dirt that is preventing it from working efficiently. Open the computer and access the fan -- using the first 14 steps of this guide and use an air duster to blow out any dust or dirt within it.
If the fan is clear, but your computer is still overheating and/or the fan is still overworking, try using an air duster on the motherboard. Open the computer and access the motherboard using the first 16 steps of this guide and blow out any dust or dirt that has accumulated within it.
If both the fan and motherboard are clean and your computer is still overheating and/or the fan is still overworking, you may need to replace the fan. Follow this guide for help with doing so.
Your computer is running slowly.
Try defragmenting your disk to see if this can fix your problem. Disk defragmentating works to increase the access speed of your computer. It rearranges files on your hard drive to decrease the time it takes for information to be accessed.
If defragmenting your disk does not work, check your computer for malware. Viruses can slow down your computer, run an antivirus program to check your PC for viruses. If the software finds a virus; remove the virus. This may fix your computer’s speed.
If the above two solutions don’t work, try disabling some of your web extensions. These extensions use processing power and can slow down your computer. Try disabling them first, and if that doesn’t work try removing them.
If none of the above work, your computer’s hard drive may need replacement. You can find the guide to replacing your hard drive here.
