If your iRobot Roomba Essential Robot is frequently bumping into objects in the area in which it is vacuuming, follow this troubleshooting guide.
Dirty or Blocked Sensors
Over time the sensor system of the iRobot Roomba Essential Robot can become clogged with dirt and debris. To help unclog the system, users can use a cleaning tool such as a Magic Eraser to remove the buildup on the sensor. You should then place the device on its back and blow compressed air between the sensor and the bumper to further clean out the device.
Out of Date Software
If your iRobot Roomba Essential Robot is not connected to a Wifi provider then it will not be able to update. If your device is not connected, connect it to your Wifi and then allow it the time to update. This process can take up to 24 hours. If this does not solve the issue you can try rebooting your device. This can be done by navigating to product settings, and selecting to "Reboot Roomba" in the mobile app.
Inaccurate Object Detection Settings
If your iRobot Roomba Essential Robot is frequently bumping into objects around your home, the robot's obstacle detection sensitivity settings may be off. To fix this go to "Robot Settings", then select "Cleaning Preferences", followed by "Obstacle Detection". You can then adjust your device's settings to your personal preferences.
Settings Need Adjusted
There is a mode that can be found in the app which can help to adjust the driving mode of the iRobot Roomba Essential Robot. To enable "Careful Drive" users should select "Product Settings", then "Cleaning Preferences," followed by "Careful Drive". This mode will help the device to clean around objects without bumping into them.
