Left dpad button won't respond anymore

Lately, a DS4 dpad issue emerged: the "left" dpad button stopped working. Pushing it feels like pushing the other dpad buttons. I've tried the controller on the PS4 and on the PC using a usb cable and DS4Windows. Both systems won't recognize the button. I have also tried the reset-button on the back without any success. Is it a common problem? Are there any known solutions? Thank you

the rubber button sensor guard is probably dirty, try taking some alchohol and wetting a q-tip and use it to clean out the contact points on the motherboard for the d-pad

Edit: It worked! Took me no more than 10 minutes and the controller is working like new!

Hey guys, I’d been searching on and off for a month for a solution to this on my first gen controller and finally found someone who had solved it. See the final reply to this post: https://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/...

Essentially, install a new PCB circuit board. They are $6-7 on ebay (there are cheaper ones from China but I don’t trust those based on previous experiences); just make sure you get the right one for your model. From all I can tell, gen 1/2 used one pattern and gen 3 used another—seems to be a matter of where the contact points are for the motherboard.

I’d already tried cleaning the parts and looking for any corroded contacts or circuitry, but everything was in great shape.

Just ordered my PCB and will be trying it out Saturday when it gets here. Install is super easy; no soldering involved. Just pop the old one off the mounting points and out of the slots under the triggers/bumpers and slip the new one in. The PS4 controllers are extremely friendly to DIY fixes and cleaning. Awesome video instruction for taking the controller apart here, even though it doesn’t include disassembly of the PCB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pw2UMop...

I've the same problem with my controller that came with my PS4, I haven't used it much in the last year or so, but it was practically new, kept it in my ps4 bag, no hits or any damages, I tried to used it but the up and right arrows won't respond, I disassembled my controller to check it out, everything on the motherboard seemed ok, no damages, but still I cleaned it with qtips and some alcohol, but still not working, it is a v.1 controller and don't have the money to get a new one, can anybody help me please?

To be sure that the PCB works fine you need rotate the rubber of the dpad 180° and retest the controller, if for example you started with a left button problem and after doing this you find that up or down buttons don’t work anymore then you should clean or replace the rubber, this guide will help you in your repairing.

I had this issue, too. I measured the traces of the foil PCB and the common pin of the DPAD was not connected to the traces anymore. I tried to solder it but without success. I guess conducting silver coat should work or a new foil PCB.
