Hi @iain_sinclair ,
You will have to open the device and then check the connections from the mains power inlet to the motherboard.
Here is a link that hopefully may be of some help.
If you cannot see (or test, using a DMM- digital multimeter) what the problem is, take some close up pictures of the motherboard and perhaps someone will be able to help you further. Here's how to do that. Adding images to an existing question

yes tried different wall outlets and different power lead, the problem is with the apple unit.
