went through washing machine

My 3GS went through the washing machine and is now not working. I did the whole rice, hair dryer thing and let it dry out. Though after I took it out of the washer it turned itself on so I'm not sure if the damage was permanent. That was about 3 weeks ago. When I plug it into my computer it will occasionally, but not always, show the Apple logo, then shows the connect to iTunes screen. iTunes will recognize my phone and says it needs to be restored. Unfortunately, everytime it does this I need to download the new iOS and by the time it's downloaded, it goes to the white screen and iTunes no longer recognizes it. Is there anything I can do for this?

Update

I cleaned the circuit board completely, then after I plugged it into my computer, the screen was white for just a few seconds then the battery screen came on, after that it dissapeared and the screen hasn't come on since. iTunes is recognizing my phone and when I click Restore, iTunes says preparing to restore, then I'll get a 1601 error.

recheck connector 1 is on properly/clean. let it dry and try again to see if the screen works

I've already done that several times, and like I said, the first time I plugged it in, the low battery screen came on then went away and the screen hasn't come on since, so it wasn't the connector.

Same happened to my Iphone 3. Did you manage to fix yours?

Chances are you did not rid the circuit boards of contaminates, residue and/or get them dry enough. Disassemble your phone. The gist of the procedures are here. Clean your printed circuit boards with rubbing alcohol and and a brush. Then submerge and agitated (move them around) them in alcohol to ensure that the ICs (Integrated Circuits)with BGAs (Ball Grid Arrays) have been flushed of contaminates. Wipe them with paper towels, changing them often, to ensure you are not smearing residues or contaminates to other places. Use a hair dryer ( on low to no heat) or a fan to expedite the drying process. With the use of the fore mentioned continue to let them sit over night to dry. Let them sit at least 24 hours with out the aide of air flow. Reassemble and give it a try. Good luck and have a wonderful day!

You don't need towels or driers, just let it sit and air dry.
