The rear camera takes blurry pictures in color mode, but in monochrome the photos are clear. I tried checking the settings, but it didn't work. How do I fix it?

The Mate 9 has two camera modules on the back. One is color, the other monochrome. So in this case your color camera is the only individual part that is malfunctioning.
Self contained cell phone camera modules include tiny motors that move the lens elements back and forth to focus the image. If the motors fail or the moving parts get stuck then the camera focus stays locked in place. Try bringing you color camera within 6 inches of an object. Slowly back away and you may find that the focus is perfect at a specific range. That will confirm the lenses are not moving.
Steps to solve this would be:
1. Try a software reset. You almost certainly have a hardware problem and this is almost certainly a waste of time... But you can try it anyway.
2. Try hitting it! I do NOT mean randomly dropping you phone and I do NOT mean smacking it against a hard surface. Try first tapping two fingers against the camera lens as hard as you can manage with two fingers. If unsuccessful, hold the body of the phone securely in your dominant hand with the back facing out. With your other hand held open, slam the back of the phone against your palm in a clapping motion.
Note that if you do successfully "free" the camera. This problem is know to return.
3. Send your phone to Huawei for warranty repair.
4. If warranty is not an option, open the phone and replace the camera module.

Thank you you have just saved me - pensioner-from having to fork out R250 to "fix" my rear camera with my phone the tapping wasn't successful but after I slapped my palm, it worked after the second "slap" it was as though nothing was ever wrong with the camera,, my pics immediately clear as crystal, exactly how they used to be, thank you so very much, GOD BLESS

Have the same issue with my Phone and I've been able to crutch along by tapping the camera but it seems to be getting worse. I have reviewed the repair and it doesn't seem bad as compared to IPhone repairs but I am concerned it will just reoccur with the next minor fall.
Is this a design issue or a defective batch of cameras. Follow up, if its a defective batch of cameras is there a series part number or version to avoid?

This is my second Huawei Mate 9 and I have had the exact same issue with each - I think this is a manufacturing fault!

Same problem, tapping didn't work, but smacking with the palm did.
This was however a temporary fix and the problem was back wethin a week!

Fecking Huawei bastards…I see that it’s a common fault in all mate 10 pro, mate 2 and even 30. There is something surely with the software. I took so beautiful pics with the 9 pro before EMU 8. then the sh-it began. I bought and replaced camera twice…but worked temporary, ending putting the original cam in again which responds best to the tapping. Iam pis-sed off, i spent hours and mail on phone with service, no solution. why not recon it’s a fault/default than we move on? bastards!

The Palm smacking just worked for my wifes phone… TheThe tapping didnt work… Seems its a common problem from this reading

Hi everyone.
I had the same problem with my Mate 9 camera. I’ve had this phone for almost two years and I was more than happy with it, I do not need expensive phones for my daily basis. So after reading it was a hardware issue I decided to simply buy a replacement camera on eBay. I replaced it and the new camera worked fine… for 3 days! Then again the same blurry effect came back and I am now considering buying a new phone. Anyone has found a different solution?

I have had this issue for a while and I figured out that the rear camera keeps falling out of its housing that it sits in.
I bought a replacement and changed it and super glued it in place and it worked for a little bit but came back, I’m not sure if I glued one of the lenses by accident.

Amazing !!! It solves the problem of blurrty of the rear camera of my Huawei mate 9.
I hold the body of the phone securely in my dominant hand with the back facing out. With my other hand held open, i slam the back of the phone against my palm in a clapping motion.
