My M3800 suddenly stopped working with an AC adaptor, won't charge the battery, won't operate without the battery. I have several AC adaptors and none of them work now (the power adapter are good as they work for other laptops).. Any ideas??
What is the IC mofset component on those that handle the charginf of battery?

Hi,
Just verifying that the laptop will not work with the AC adapter connected and the battery removed, is this correct?
It may be that the DC-In jack is faulty and not that you have a problem further into the motherboard.
Here is a link to the owner manual for your laptop.
Scroll to p.21 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the power connector, (DC-In jack).
You are fortunate that this is a plug in module so if it is faulty it is easy to replace, no soldering required. (use an Ohmmeter to test if it is OK out of circuit)

I have a similar issue; My Dell Precision M3800 reports during boot that my charger is insufficient, and that performance will be adjusted accordingly. And it no longer charges the battery.
It says the I need a 130W adapter.
But I do have a 130W adapter, and this adapter works without any issues on other M3800 Dell machines.
What can be the reason for this issue, and what should I do?

@Oyvind Overby Sense IC is bad. Dell had some issues with the early 130W units, which were prone to that issue. I went through quite a few when I had my E6540 as well. They fixed it in the later revisions, and new design.
If it's got a Dell logo molded into the plastic, be glad it's worked this long.
