The FLIR ONE is available in three generations and is limited to 9 frames per second. The cameras can be used to detect things like air and water leaks. The second-generation model has increased resolution over the first-generation model and is supported by nearly every smartphone.

It should be! Did you reach out and talk with company to see what they say?

I doubt anyone has tried fixing one as its a very limited market.

Hi Dan, yes I did. They said physical damage isn’t covered under warranty and offered me a half price coupon to buy another. It seems they don’t fix them only replace them.

I think we should be able to order one of these connectors from a Chinese cable manufacture. Just need to have it pinned out. the threaded plastic housing that contains the lightning connector and it's subsequent pins needs to be pinned out, but I think they're only using it for data, so no power leads are being used. Lightning connectors contain a microscopic IC inside the housing of the connector that auto swaps pins no matter what orientation the connecter is in when inserted. So we need to find out which two pins are being used for data, and the ground pin(s).

The plastic housing of the connector is threaded and the camera uses an aluminum threaded sleeve that allows the connector to be adjusted for iPhone case depth.

I'm reaching out to some online manufactures to see if they can make a cable, maybe we can sell them to others who have the same issue.

i just need to know how to open to access batt it sat to long niw won’t do anything

If it’s 3rd gen NON pro. Peel off sticker. There’s a plain 2nd sticker under. Peel that. Then there’s 2 micro torx screws.

@beemom take a look on here How to fix a dead FLIR ONE and see if yours opens up in a similar manner. If so that would be the way to get to the board and the connector. Problem will be to find a replacement. “Apple Lightning Connectors” are available at places like Alibaba.com and others but due to their size etc. some good soldering skills will be required. We would need to see more of the board and how the connector is attached. You may also consider using a connector from a lightning cable or even create cable connection instead of a direct connection. FLIR does not repair their devices if they are not covered under warranty. They will only replace.

This process gets the battery going again I think. A simple replacement. But the lightning connector is another issue entirely. No way to fix at the moment...

A broken lightning connector on a flir one pro is more than just getting another connector and soldering it on. I looked at the broken one under very significant magnification and counted 5 layers of the broken pcb. Even as an experienced microsolderer, i would call it virtually impossible. The pcb plug has 4 connectors, 2 large for power and 2 small for data. I would not be surprised if the lightning pcb is coded to the main board.

Lightning connectors usually just desolder themselves—-you can probably fix it with a soldering iron, solder, flux, and some epoxy, then use a flexible lightning extender to attach the camera to the phone in the future.

Is this something you have been successful with? Do you know of any videos available?

из

well sure I have had success--but I'm a professional microsolderer. I would try to see how I could split the housing in half. If you can't find how it originally came together then you could dremel it. Once you can see the lightning connector and the board, then post a picture and we can let you know if it looks repairable.

Not when these units have a broken lightning connector, they shear off at the base since the camera is so heavy and has tremendous potential leverage straining the lightning jack of the phone/ipad. The weakest link is the connector on the camera itself. They shear off quite easily if dropped, even from low levels. That’s what happened to mine... knocked it off my desk onto the carpet and snap!

I broke the connector and I was able to replace and solder another connector which I recovered from a cable. The connections seem ok, I’ve checked and measured them one by one, but the phone does not recognise the camera. Did anyone else experienced this?

Ive same issue. Though I took it apart and found it’s a simple push on connection within the unit. 4 screws and it was apart and now attempting to contact flir

Bummer!

So now the question is can you find another broken one on eBay which has a good connector assembly and can you swap the part out?

Sounds like you’re half way to a guide here ;-} If you take on the challenge you can help others! By taking notes and pictures as you figure it out and post your discovery here! https://www.ifixit.com/Contribute

I contacted flir, I had the same issue, they said they will not sell replacement parts,

the push connector to the circuit board has J2 stamped on it with a standard cell phone type cable that ends with a lightning connector.

Any luck finding this part?

here is a picture of it, I tried soldering a extension from a cut off apple lighting cable but the wires are too darn thin for my soldering skills at least.

Believe there is a little micro chip right below the lightning connector that may be a flir product that helps translate to the phone. Perhaps that’s why it is not recognizing it

из

@Michael Chirco

Never thought of that, but I think that would make the device non-apple compliant at that point. It's an apple based logic chip (probably off the shelf item) that they use to automatically place data/power pins on the correct pin of the connector.

из

They are non existent, I was thinking of having a Chinese manufacture rebuild the cable and then just thread the plastic lightning end when it arrives. The tip with the aluminum ferrule that moves the lightning tip in and out can be removed/reused. It appears the first iteration had data lines just running parallel to each other. They now appeared to have meshed the ground traces over top the +\- data lines to aid in crosstalk/interference. I think the camera simply utilizes the two data lines and a ground or two. The lightning connector’s logic then does what lightning cables do and auto orients the pins to the correct data lines depending on how it’s inserted.

из

One of the solution atleast to use this camera: connect via regular UART to the board by soldering to exposed test pins, boot internal OS in configuration mode, than change config for camera to behave as Android unit. Next step is solder USB Data +/- over existing "charging" USB-C, so your Flir will become USB-C version also will charger while being in use via USB-C. I have converted my iOS flir to me MicroUSB and works perfectly fine with Android devices. I will not provide any details how to do it, because if you can't google this stuff and figure yourself you shouldn't be doing it, all I can say this information is easily accessible.

из

Any further hints, where to find the info on changing the configuration over UART? Because I couldn't find anythign googling it. And I have the same issue with broken iOS Flir One pro.
