Replacement fan is always on

So, the original fan was making horribly loud noises, and my computer was often running quite hot. I ordered and installed the part, “MacBook Pro 13" Unibody and MacBook 13" Unibody Fan / Used / Silver, IF163-022-3”. The install seemed to go smoothly.

However, now, whenever the computer is on, the fan is running at what seems to be full blast. It’s an improvement, but I feel like usually the fan speeds up and slows down relative to the temp of the computer. Is this just how my new fan works, or is it possibly faulty, or maybe I did a bad install?

I’ve installed the app, Macs Fan Control. With my older fan I could adjust the speed, and it told me the rpm’s of the fan. Since I’ve installed the new fan, the rpm simply reads 0, and I can’t adjust the speed of the fan. This makes me think maybe there is a bad connection?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Here’s the screenshot of TG Pro.

@codyblake - Lets see what all of the sensors are telling us. Install this great app TG Pro post a snapshot of the main app window, you may need to expand the window to get all of the sensors to show as well as the fans Adding images to an existing question.

Also take a picture of the fan connector on the logic board and your fan's cable.

That will help us help you!

Uploaded the tg pro. Don't have time right now to take the comp apart for the logic board photo. Will do tonight.

There’s an issue with the PWM sensing on the new fan, so it is running at full speed to protect the system.

You have a board issue or you need a replacement fan. If you have issues with 2 different fans, begin to suspect a board issue.

Tried the PRAM and SMC reset, no change. Looking like a board issue. I can't say I'm surprise, the thing is 11 years old and I treat it rough.

@codyblake I would try one more fan and see. Don't spend much on a 2009 tho.

I would connect the old fan again, just to see if you have the same issue. If that’s the case then you have a board issue as posted before. If it works fine with the old fan, then there is an issue with the new fan. In any case i would try an smc and pram reset with the new fan
