Why does the screen show a blinking picture of a "file" and "?"

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro that recently turns on to a file folder with a “?” mark. I’ve looked into [Command]+[R] and ran the Disk Utility, seems like the HD is in good health, but it does not boot. Tried to reinstall a clean OS-X Lion however no drivers were located.

Sadly, I don’t have a Time Machine on for backups and desperate to retrieve files. Please help.

Any suggestions or data recovery recommendations are most appreciated. Thank you.
