I wrongly connected wires of PC charger , it gave a message and shutdown (I don't remember )
Ever since then it has not been able to charge laptop battery
But when I put the same battery on another PC it charged
Any possible fix to this pc

Well If the battery is fine than check the charger because it can also mean that the charger not working and you need new charger for Or you can also check for the driver in your system if an outdated driver you found which in related to power issue that you should update or fix that driver by using a good driver updated software

What is the model number of the motherboard as printed on the motherboard itself?
Just verifying whether you can turn on the laptop OK but it just won't charge or whether it won't turn on either with a good charger connected?

You will have to open the laptop and find it printed on the motherboard.
Here's a guide - HP EliteBook 840 G1.
Just asking as it seems that there are different 840 G1 models that have slightly different motherboards and I suspect that when you reversed the power you damaged a component on the motherboard and the correct schematics will have to be found for it to know where to look and what it may be or is (if it is burnt out and can't be recognized).
When it is open you can also look for any obvious damage i.e. burnt out components
