Worth repairing the machine?

Block Image

The battery in my 2015 MBP decided to puff up after 9 years of use :/. I have since dropped it from production (I already bought my 16" MBP M1, so the move is done) but I need this computer to control a piece of hardware that HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED for the M series so I either have to maintain an old Mac, or use Windows for this thing. It's not part of the battery recall.

Given the age of the computer, is it worth doing a battery replacement this late in?

@nick what's a battery? About $120 and change. I am sure you can't get any computer for that price that is as reliable as the one you already have. You know everything about it and it is totally known to you. In addition to that, you "need" it as your controller. Go for it. Replace the battery!

I can use my Silcon 16", but the rub is I need Rosetta 2. Outside of that one requirement, it works but the program is Intel native. Once Apple drops it, I'm hosed with Macs until the update is done.

I can buy something similar that nixes the Intel machine problem but it's a $500 fix.

@nick $500 vs $120 seems like an easy decision to make.

@oldturkey03 F it I'm calling the vendor out as a warning for the disgusting situation I'm in...

No native Apple Silicon build, and it's been nearly 4 YEARS. Now I need to repair an old MBP I would normally likely gracefully sunset.

@nick but it happens all the time. Old software that does not support new devices or New software that does not support old devices. Microsoft doing the same now, as well as all the others.

из

@oldturkey03 This software is actively supported. Just not updated well.

Fixing is always better then throwing in the garbage ... i say fix it and keep it as a back up .... or a car laptop or give it to a kid who wont mind the age
