I haven't used my Sony dsc-w5 for several years. I am now unable to open the battery comparment. I suspect the battery has leaked and corroded the latch from the inside. How can I open the latch without damaging it?

charles, you could try and soak the corner with the battery door in a backing powder solution, and/or use a sprayer to try and spray some around the corners. Also, a toothbrush scrubbing might get it loosened. If you soak it, just place that particular corner in a solution, not the whole camera. The only other way is to disassemble the camera, the attached images may help you with that task. Hope this helps, good luck.
