Three possibilities; damaged adapter, damaged laptop charging port, and dead battery. A multimeter is needed to measure the adapter plug (19vdc, center is positive, outer shell is negative). If the adapter is outputting correct voltage, either the connection port is damaged or the battery is worn out.
