Background and Identification
The Apple Universal Dock Model A1256 is an iPod charging cradle with interchangeable faceplates, allowing for the charging of many Apple devices. The Apple Universal Dock both charges the connected device and props it up in a useful position.
The Apple Universal Dock is similar to other media player docking systems, such as iHomes, although it is generally simpler. It doesn’t include exterior alarm clock functionality or external speakers.
While this product has been long since discontinued from Apple, there are still a variety of similar devices sold in the Apple Store. For instance, Apple sells the iPhone Lightning Dock for iPhone models with the Lightning Connector. This iPhone Lightning Dock comes in black, silver, or gold, which is an improvement from the original white-only model. Additionally, in this newer model, the iPhone sits entirely on top of the dock base, unlike in the Apple Universal Dock Model A1256 where the device rests in a notch.
The Apple Universal Dock Model A1256 includes a charging stub that the device connects to, a slim base to keep the device propped upright, and a cord that connects to the wall or to a computer. It is white in color.
