Background:
The LG V40 ThinQ released in the United States on October 18th 2018 and was discontinued when LG closed its mobile phone business in July 2021 however The LG V40 ThinQ was released in multiple markets, including the United States, South Korea, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Europe and its initial release dates, availability on specific carriers, and even release confirmation varied significantly by region. Specific production or sales numbers for the LG V40 ThinQ were never publicly released by LG, but the device sold around 900-980$ when released and is now reselling for about 100$ with the price varying based on the condition of the phone.
The LG V40 ThinQ was a premium device in LG's "V" series of high-end smartphones. The V series was known for its multimedia capabilities, and the V40 continued this legacy with advanced audio and camera features. Its most notable feature is its five-camera system, which was highly unusual for its time. It had three on the rear, and two on the front. The front includes a dual camera, which has two camera sensors that work in unison to produce an image. The rear camera sensors are a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and a standard lens. The V40 includes a non-removable 3300 mAh battery. A non-removable battery is one whose adhesive is permanent, making repair and replacement difficult. The V30, the V40’s predecessor, includes the same size battery while the V50, the V40’s successor, includes a larger 4000 mAh battery. The V40 also features 18 Watt fast-charging capabilities and 10-Watt wireless charging. It also has Qnovo’s intelligent battery management software built in to extend the lifespan of the battery. The V40 includes 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 512 GB with microSDXC cards. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer sensors. The phone has a scratch-resistant glass back and front, and an aluminum frame. The V40 features dust-resistance and water-resistance in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The V40 is also MIL-STD-810G compliant, meaning that it complies with standard military environmental worthiness and overall durability.
TechRadar’s review praised the various camera modes and design of the V40 but found that the telephoto lens sometimes causes zoomed-in photos to become blurry. TechRadar also said the phone requires more battery power than it provided.
Identification:
The LG V40 ThinQ can be identified by its distinctive five-camera setup with 2 on the front and three on the back, its 6.4-inch OLED screen with a prominent notch at the top, unique matte glass back, and the presence of both a headphone jack and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. These features distinguish it from similar LG models from the same era, like the V30 and G7. This device was available in the four colors new aurora black, new platinum gray, new moroccan blue, and carmine red and its model number information is located on the SIM tray or on a label on the back of the phone and it can also be found in the phones settings.
