The laptop will not respond to any inputs or show any sign of powering up.

The laptop may overheat when its battery is dying. Each battery has its own life cycle which is usually measured by the number of charges per lifetime. When the battery dies, you can use this guide to change it.

You may need to calibrate your battery. This could be done by charging the Laptop up to 100% , then turn off all screensavers and applications that are running  on the computer. Once the laptop reaches 100%, leave the laptop on until it runs out of battery, then recharge the battery to 100% . this will help calibrate the battery cells.
