Software component of memory board replacement
After replacing the board does the computer automatically recognize it? Other than physical replacement is there anything else to do?

Kevin, most likely you will find that you need to reinstall a few drivers for the logicboard. Those are usually available at the motherboard manufacturers website, and/or you may even get the driver disk with your board. Everything else should be okay. Hope this helps, good luck.
