Dear all,

I have a small problem with repairing the Ipad 4, model A1458 and I hope one of you can support me.

First of all, my customer told me it was an ipad 3 version, so I take of the glass/digitizer as usual. By heating up the glue and pulling the digitizer out of his frame I saw an broken flex cable. So my that is why I thought ( this isn't the iPad 3 but 4 version ).

So after the digitizer was off, I saw an flex cable between the mainbord and "I guess home button or bracket". This cable is broken, so I believe the home button will not work anymore.

I'm searching now for an solution but I can't find an supplier who can deliver such cable including home button.

Does someone has experience with this or can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

does the home button comes with the digitizer

So after some more investigating it seems that you are going to have to buy a new digitizer assembly as the home button assembly and flex cable are combined inside.

Other than that I have found ZERO accounts of anyone selling the flex cable separately and I could find no mention of it being anywhere other than attached to the digitizer.

i've talked to 20 companies in china. No one has the flex cable in stock. :( A soon as i find a supplier, i will post the website here.

That is definately a different thing on the Ipad 4. I have the same problem.. The flex-cable from the homebutton is somehow fixed to the backside of the screen, which made me destroy the cable when removing the screen. I can't find a supplier who delievers this part, and it's absolutely not the same as on the Ipad 3 :)

The home button usually consists of 2 cables ~ one ground and one +.

The ipad reacts to when they touch together (when you press the home button)

Look at the broken cable, and you will probably see these 2 lines. Scratch them up with a sharp razor to expose the copper wire. Once you expose it, you can put some solder, use a little wire, and solder them together.

Shouldn't be too difficult assuming you've done soldering work before.

Sure, helpful, but easier said than done. This is especially true if you are talking about microscopic conductors. Not sure about the model you are discussing, but i'm having a similar issue. Looking for a way to extend a 6 conductor flat flex. All i need is 1/4" more!

We have a similar problem in our repair shop. IPAD 4 Home flex broken upon removal.

The flex has what looks like a small copper wire running through the middle which attaches to four solder contact points on the home button switch.

We believe this middle copper wire is the negative as it runs to the edge of the contact on the motherboard however we cannot confirm that as we also don't know the positive connection.

It would be an easy job if you could identify both positive and negative but in this case its not that easy.

Any idea?

This is great news and they are located in the UK.

I will let you know how I get on. I believe they only sell to computer repairs businesses so this is also good as we have a shop.

Could you possibly post a picture of the cable as well as the connector? it sucks I only had one to deal with so far and I didn't bother inspecting the home button (I didn't break it) I wish I had it so that I can test the pins and see what they are. sorry I'm not much help unless I physically had one to take a look at.

That Ebay link is great! Nice find and thanks for posting.

I successfully completed this repair by replacing the home button assembly complete with the flex cable. There is no chance this cable can be repaired there is some processing going on in the switch so it must be replaced if torn or cracked.

What a game for the new IPAD4 home button!

Everyone please be careful on repairing this and opening the Digitizer. If the Digitizer is cracked from the bottom then double check the glass wont break it upon removal as well.

You can easily rip this flex!its literally 4mm wide and very flimsy! Even handling the new flex assembly is scary!
