Plugged phone in last night, noticed intense heating around charging port and lead. After testing that the chord was fine, I saw some rust/copper looking metal at the bottom of my micro usb port. No matter what I have done, the phone will not recognise charging cable. Do I need to replace the charging port, or is there some other solution?

Have you try the other USB cable? If you tried but still failed, you may need to replace the charging port.
